What is the Gospel?

The word “Gospel” is a word that simply means Good News. So, what is the Good News?

The Good News actually starts with a bit of bad news; every person is born with what the Bible calls sin. Sin is rebellion against God. Because our sin, we are separated from God’s perfect design for our lives. This leads to brokenness in our lives. Broken relationships, broken promises, and a sense of longing and emptiness that can’t be filled. We can try to be good and religious, or we can try to escape from the emptiness, but it lonely leaves us broken still.

So, here is the Good News. God loves you. He loves you enough to send His own Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and gave His life on the cross as a sacrifice for you and I. You and I were unable to pay for our sins, but Jesus was able to because He was fully God and fully man. Not only did He die, three days later, He rose from the dead.

Anyone who puts their faith in Jesus and turns away from sin will be forgiven, made new, and brought into relationship with God. This is Good News!
